Ron Ferris Jr. began roofing with his father in 1965. He grew up on job sites across the Rochester area. Tear-offs. New installs. Long days on ladders. He learned the trade hands-on and on-site. In 1979, he founded his own company with a clear standard: to build residential roofs the right way and treat homeowners honestly.
That company became Ron Ferris & Son Roofing, operating under the legal name Ron Ferris & Son Home Improvements LLC. The public-facing focus has always been residential roofing and exterior work for homeowners across Wayne, Monroe, and Ontario Counties.

A Family Business Across Generations
Matthew Schmitt has been Ron Ferris’ stepson since the age of three. He grew up in this business. Roofing was not a career choice later in life. It was part of his upbringing. By the time he finished school, he was already working on roofs throughout Walworth, Webster, Penfield, Fairport, Victor, Canandaigua, and the surrounding communities.
Matthew became Ron’s business partner and continues to carry on the company today as an owner-operator. Ron has recently retired after decades of service to homeowners across Western New York. The foundation he built remains intact. The standards have not changed.
Matthew has more than 30 years of hands-on roofing experience. He is present on every new roof installation. He actively manages day-to-day operations and oversees the entire replacement process from tear-off to final cleanup. You are not handed off to a salesman. The owner is on site. He monitors the crew. He answers questions. He keeps the job moving.
Leadership and Accountability
As President of the company, Matthew is responsible for strategic direction, financial oversight, long-term growth and overall leadership of the organization. This role focuses on vision, structure and ensuring the company operates at the highest professional standards.
As owner-operator, that commitment goes further. He meets directly with homeowners to tailor roof replacement plans that fit individual needs and budgets. He manages project execution, helps oversee installations and maintains a presence on every roof installed.
The connection between those roles is accountability. Many company presidents lead from an executive level. Matthew leads on site. He does not guide the company from behind a desk. He participates in daily operations. That direct involvement supports quality control, client satisfaction and craftsmanship that reflects decades of personal investment in the business.
He is a husband of over twenty years and a proud father of two daughters. He lives in the same communities he serves. That matters. Homes in Monroe County face lake effect snow. Homes in Wayne County take direct wind exposure off Lake Ontario. Ontario County sees freeze-thaw cycles that test roof edges and flashing. He understands the climate because he works in it every day.

No State Roofing License Required in New York
New York State does not require a state-level roofing license. Monroe County and Wayne County do not require local roofing licenses. Even without a licensing mandate, we operate with full insurance coverage and manufacturer certifications that hold us to strict installation standards.
Zero Down, No Payment Until Completion
You do not pay before the work is complete. No deposits. No progress billing. Payment is due only after the roof installation is finished to your satisfaction. We accept cash, check, and credit card.
